The Student
Fellowship Ministry at Norcross First Baptist Church is
for 6th through 12th graders and exists to equip students
to carry out the great commission given to us by Jesus
Christ of salvation through faith in Him and observing
His commandments (Matthew 28:19-20).
We meet on Sundays from 9:30-10:30 AM and on Wednesdays
from 6:30-7:45 PM in the student lounge of the Christian
Life Center for food, fellowship and Bible study.
Every child is a gift from God and we make sure each time
we meet that we communicate His love and encouragement
during all the challenges of growing up in today's world.
Following are some of the basics that are consistently
taught:
- We believe the Bible clearly teaches us that we
become a child of God only by accepting God's gift
of salvation through Jesus Christ (John 3:16-17).
- We emphasize that we are to first love God and
then love others (Mark 12:29-31) as Jesus commanded.
Everything else falls in line the way God intended
when we start there.
- We celebrate the Holy Spirit, who not only teaches
us God's truth (John 16:13) but also shows his presence
in us by giving us the "fruit of the Spirit"
so that when we follow and obey the Holy Spirit His
fruit appears in our lives (love, joy, peace, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control)
(Galatians 5:22-23).
- We also recognize that while we are not saved by
works or any effort or our part, God tells us in James
2:20-22 that we are to exhibit our faith by active
service to God and others so that they both work together
to witness to unbelievers.
In addition to our regularly scheduled fellowship
times we have other events in which we learn more of
God's will for our lives, enjoy and encourage each other,
and witness to others by serving them. These events
include:
- DiscipleNow (a time of Bible Study and fun over
a weekend during the winter)
- Dare-2-Share (a time of becoming better equipped
to share the good news of salvation through Jesus
Christ over a weekend during late winter or early
spring)
- World Changers (a week long mission trip sponsored
by the North American Mission Board of the Southern
Baptist Convention in which we go and perform roofing
or community service projects as a way to witness
to a community)(during 2007 we went to New Orleans)
- Back-to-School Retreat (a weekend together in the
North Georgia mountains over Labor Day weekend to
worship and study God's Word while having fun and
setting a tone of dedication to God as the students
begin another school year)
Each time we meet there's fun and fellowship with each
other and interactive teaching so that God's Word is
explored in an age appropriate manner with lots of time
to address the questions our students have as they learn
more about God and His plan for their lives.
